  • Check your lights. Check each string for broken or burnt out bulbs or frayed wires. Replace any strings that are damaged or too old.
  • Indoor or outdoor? Different decorations are rated for different usage. All holiday lights, for example, are not created equal. Some are made to be used outdoors and can stand up to ice and snow, while others would be better suited for your mantel or Christmas tree. Also make sure you’re using extension cords correctly – choose one that is suited for the job you want it to do.
  • Keep your tree healthy. If you’re putting up a live Christmas tree, make sure you know how to keep it healthy. Water is regularly and don’t set it up too close to heating vents. A dried out tree is not only messy, it can easily catch fire!
  • Be careful with candles. Candles are a great way to add ambiance to a room, but don’t forget to use them safely! Don’t put candles too close to items that could catch fire, and keep them out of reach of children and pets. Never forget to blow out candles before you leave your house or go to bed!

Decorating for the holidays is a great way to get in the holiday spirit and have fun! Just remember to check your home insurance! Indiana homeowners know that a great policy is the best way to protect their homes and belongings from damage or loss. Happy holidays!
